The Ultimate Vessel for Training Future Fishers

The newly delivered training vessel »Skulebas« has been successfully delivered to Måløy Videregående Skole. This sustainable boat is a state-of-the-art fishing vessel outfitted for multiple types of fishing to train aspiring students.

In July 2021, Hvide Sande Shipyard received the order to build the new »Skulebas« for Måløy Videregående Skole which was to replace the owners 49-year-old ship. Hvide Sande Shipyard designed the vessel, while Solstrand Trading provided drawings and calculations for its construction. A budget of 105 million kroner was allocated for the building contract.

The newbuilding measures 38 meters in length which is 3.5 meters longer than the old training vessel. It can accommodate up to 20 students / teachers along with a crew of three. The mess hall can also be used as a classroom for 15 students.

Combining advanced technology and sustainable power

The vessel features a diesel-electric hybrid drive system and a 1000 kW battery pack for propulsion. The hybrid system i manages by a Danfoss Vacon system drive. The vessel is equipped with 2x450 kW electric main engines from Hoyer. Furthermore, it has two Nogva Scania generators on 400 kWe and 600 kWe.

Emphasizing environmental awareness, the vessel boasts innovative waste and energy management solutions aimed at reducing its ecological footprint. Moreover, its operational systems are built around sustainable fishing practices. »Skulebas« serves as an exemplar in both maritime innovation and educational collaboration within the industry. Storage is based on 1000-liter tanks in cold storage with a similar solution for by-products.
