A control system known for performance and reliability
What is a steering control unit?
A steering control unit is used to convey a signal of ordered rudder angle from the bridge and activates the steering gear to move the rudder to the desired angle.
About AS SCAN steering controls
Our steering control systems offers highly accurate, safe and flexible steering gear control systems. Our solutions can be configured according to any customer requirements. It is a unified control system allowing the operator to take control of the steering gear instantly at any control position on the bridge or to transfer control to the autopilot or FFU/NFU system.
You get one complete system with alarm system, pump control panel, NFU/FFU/Auto and rudder angle indicator.
Control Lever types
Follow-Up and Non Follow-Up configurations are available for the AS SCAN steering system. The different steering gear control system configurations are described as follows:
Non-Follow-Up (NFU)
A non-follow-up system actuates the solenoid valves by controlling the steering actuator. Upon a steering request the valve open completely, resulting in full force being applied to the rudder as long as input is given. Upon removal of the steering request the valve closes again. This makes it a time dependent control.
Full Follow-Up (FFU)
A full follow-up system applies position feedback. The required rudder position is set on the steering control, upon which the solenoid valves are opened to control the steering actuator.
The actual position and requested position are continuously compared, resulting in automatic closure of the valves upon reaching the desired position. This makes it a position dependent control.
