Custom-designed hydraulic anchor winch and deck equipment for a leading Norwegian shipyard

Aas Mek. Verksted sought a new supplier of deck equipment as part of a broader strategy to engage partners with greater flexibility and adaptability. Since the yard's wellboats follow a tried and tested design, it was essential that any new marine hydraulic equipment could be incorporated without requiring major structural changes. This need laid the groundwork for a dialogue with AS SCAN, who quickly proved to be a relevant and technically capable partner.

AS SCAN’s approach: flexibility and experience

“From the outset, we understood that standard solutions wouldn’t suffice – a tailored approach was necessary. Our design team worked closely with Aas Mek. Verksted to ensure full compatibility.”

From first delivery to long-term partnership

The collaboration began in 2019 with the delivery of deck equipment for Sølvtrans’ newbuild no. 201 – MS Ronja Islander, a 70-meter wellboat with a cargo capacity of 1,800 m³. Since then, AS SCAN has delivered complete packages, including hydraulic anchor windlasses, auxiliary winches, and capstans, for 14 wellboats. New orders for seven wellboats

Following a temporary slowdown in newbuild activity – partly due to uncertainty around Norway’s salmon tax – activity has resumed, and the partnership between Aas Mek. Verksted and AS SCAN continues to thrive. New orders have now been placed for deck machinery for seven additional wellboats, reaffirming mutual trust and AS SCAN’s position as a strategic and capable supplier.
